Pin Pro – Detailed Guide
Safety First
Your Pin Pro contains a small coin cell battery which can be extremely dangerous if swallowed. Please keep away from children and dispose of properly.
Setup
The Pin Pro is compatible with virtually all Bluetooth enabled smartphones . Please have your phone with you and powered on during setup.
The preinstalled CR1632 battery is mated to an insulating tab which must be removed before use. The tab in place to ensure no current drainage during storage and shipping so as to provide full battery capacity.
Using the included specialized screwdriver, carefully remove the 3 screws and lift out the battery cover with the pre-inserted battery. It is recommended to do this operation on a plate to help prevent possible loss of the tiny screws. Once the battery cover with battery is lifted away, remove and discard the exposed insulating tab. Align the battery cover in the correct position by registering the single 90° angled corner and press down into locking position. As soon as the battery makes contact, you will hear a single tone indicating pairing mode has begun. Drive in the screws until they are snug. Do not over tighten. Keep the screwdriver handy in the box as you will need it to replace the battery about a year out. In case you have misplaced the screwdriver when it's time to change the battery, for reference, it is a Torx T3 driver and is readily available.
Your Pin Pro will remain in pairing mode for two minutes before shutting down. If you have not paired your phone to the device within that period of time, you must remove the battery and reinsert it in order to go back into pairing mode for another 2 minutes.
Immediately after inserting the battery, turn on your phones Bluetooth radio under settings. If your Bluetooth was already on, you may need to turn it off and then back on again in order to discover the Pin Pro. Your phone will immediately begin scanning for nearby devices. When you see Pin Pro come up on your list, tap to pair it with your phone.
Please note, your phone’s Bluetooth must constantly remain on to to insure constant protection and to be able to receive alerts. Your Pin Pro is designed to typically operate for an entire year before a battery change is required.
Once your phone is paired with the device, it can be disconnected and connected by turning your phones Bluetooth off and on, with no need to pair again. The only time you will need to pair your Pin Pro to your phone again is if you unpair it from your Bluetooth utility on your phone or if you remove the battery from the device (as in replacing a depleted battery).
Once the pin Pro is paired with a given phone, it can no longer be scanned for and cannot be paired with any other phone. If you wish to give your Pin Pro to another user, you must first unpair it from your phone and remove / reinsert the battery to pair with the new user's phone.
Your Pin Pro will go into deep sleep mode if left motionless for 5 minutes or longer. This would be typical during night time sleep. As soon as the Pin Pro senses any motion, it will instantly reconnect to your phone. So for example, if it's hooked to your jeans front belt loop, it will immediately wake up and reconnect your phone as soon as you reach for them in the morning.
Another good example is if you're working at your desk and leave your phone in a wireless charger and walk away, your Pin Pro will likely alert you that you left your phone behind. In this case it is recommended to unhook your Pin Pro from your belt loop (or elsewhere), and place it next to your phone. This way, you'll remember to take both your phone and your Pin Pro when you leave the area at the end of your work session.
Another method is to disconnect the device from your phone by turning it off in your phones Bluetooth settings, and simply turn it back on when you leave your work area. The problem is, we won't always remember to turn the device back on and end up leaving the office with no protection. To work around this, you can set your phone alarm to remind you at quitting time to turn your Bluetooth device back on before leaving.
Another option is to simply allow the Pin Pro to sound alerts each time you walk away from your desk if it's not that often if you like the idea of putting the device to the test each time.
Where to Wear the Device
in order to mitigate false alerts and achieve the shortest alert range for the most effective protection, your Pin Pro must be worn in front of you. Hook the spring ring on your front belt loop (not the side belt loop where key rings are typically hooked), or somewhere on your jacket like a button hole, or on a necklace, purse, or bag, etc.
To ensure optimal performance where you will typically receive proximity alerts from 8 feet to 38 feet and virtually no false alerts ,your Pin Pro must be in front of you and close to your phone when carried or within line of sight when in use or charging at your desk.
For example, if you keep your phone in your front left pants pocket or in a holster on your left side, hook your Pin Pro to your belt loop just to the right of that pocket so it is positioned in front of you and not at your side. If you keep your phone in your back left pocket, keep the Pin Pro hooked onto the same belt loop.
If you like to wear necklaces over your clothing, because it's so small, one of the most effective places for your Pin Pro is to hang it as a charm on that necklace. If you hook it onto your purse or bag, be sure that the device is hooked on the front so as not to be rear facing. We don't want line of sight when walking away from our phone because that would lengthen the alert distance by allowing the signal a clear path with no obstructions. By wearing your Pin Pro in front of you, you can be assured that the Bluetooth signal will be attenuated by your body and effectively give you greater protection with shorter distance alerts.
By following these simple rules, you can be assured virtually no false alerts and the shortest effective warnings if you ever leave your phone behind.
Daily Operation
When your phone is left behind, the Pin Pro will sound 5 alert patterns over several seconds and a short double tone when you return to your phone. If after the first moment you hear the beginning of the alert and you immediately turn around and walk back towards your phone, it will not continue to sound all 5 patterns and will stop immediately ending with a double tone when back in close proximity to your phone.
In about a year with typical use, your Pin Pro will sound a unique cascading 5 tone alert indicating the need to replace the CR1632 coin battery. This alert will sound once every six hours until the battery is changed or it is depleted. The low battery alert will also sound when your Pin Pro wakes up from deep sleep if left motionless for 5 minutes or longer.
Device Care
Your Pin Pro is somewhat water resistant but not waterproof. So if you're caught in the rain and a few drops hit the device, it will be fine. It is extremely rugged and has been drop tested and even run over by a car during our tests without issue. It has been built to withstand many years of wear and tear. To clean, wipe with a damp cloth.
